Some of us in the club (few) have also been on international meetings in Germany and Holland. We have a very good contact with some "enthusiats" there and some of them are visiting Sweden at "Bug Run". We are going to have a big party for our guests.
The Scirocco car is very unusual in Sweden, only 2500 cars and 250 of them are modified. The 16 valve car is very unusual, only 11 cars here. Five of these are imported, not sold in Sweden. I have one of four cars of model year 1987 (Swedish sale with extra options).
Since I took my driving licence, I´ve have owned 7 sciroccos in different shapes. My first car was a TS 1974 which I rebuilt to a GTI (a 1.6 liter engine with another camshaft and exhaust). It was Porsche red with BBS 13 inch wheels and a Kamei Kit, . My mother sewed the interior in black leather. I had the car for some years, one year in Italy. There I competed in bicycling. A lot of italians saw the back of my "red flash" car. Other cars that I restored when I came home (injured in knee) was TS 75, GT 77, GT 78, GTI 79, GTI 80. In Sweden, we have salt on the roads in the winter which means that cars fall in pieces after some years. I´ve have spent a lot of time in my garage fixing metal on Sciroccos. Very interesting job ha, ha. Now days I have only my green GTX 16 valve left (no corrosion), I´m rebuilding it now because of problem with the transmission and the KE-jetronic system. I´m changing to a gearbox from a G-60 Golf (a lot of hours) and I´m searching for a computer system (Haltec) to the engine. Hopefully can I drive some kilometers in the end of the summer (more info later). I have some ideas of a new projekt for the winter.
Scirocco greetings from Lars-Åke Östlin
